Dear City Business Owner I Manager:
Every few years the City has taken the opportunity to evaluate the City Sign Ordinances to determine where these
regulations could be streamlined and/or amended to make them easier to understand,implement and to adapt to the
new technologies for signage.Accordingly,this summer the City Council agreed that the Planning Commission
should consider revisions to the sign regulations.
There are generally two main goals to these revisions:
1) To clarify and simplify the regulations. The provisions are complex for both for the business and City Staff.
The resulting draft is believed to be easier to interpret and implement, with most of the requirements
remaining the same or more generous in allowable signage for businesses.
2) To provide better visibility for businesses along the Highway 36 corridor,and especially at the intersection of
Highway 5.
This overall effort has involved a thorough review of the current definitions and regulations,a review other cities
regulations,and drafting amendments to the sign section of the Zoning Ordinance.
The Planning Commission will hold a Public Hearing on the sign ordinance changes at its October 8, 2015
meeting 7pm at the Oak Park Heights City Hall located at 14168 Oak Park Blvd N.
Members of the public and the business community are encouraged to attend, learn about the proposed changes
and express their thoughts on the draft ordinance. While there will always be a necessity for reasonable signage
limitations,the City hopes that the current concepts being proposed will offer greater flexibility.
