The following includes my comments and/or recommendations: Overall Landscape Plan (Sheet No. 200.LP) The plan includes an array of species to be planted (10) ten deciduous shade tree species, an ornamental deciduous tree species, (3) three deciduous shrub species and (3) three coniferous tree species. Most of the plants included are acceptable and will complement the building and the existing landscaping on site well. Tree Removal Matrix (Sheet No. 101.LP) As described the plan is adequate to protect the trees listed in the inventory to be preserved which are in close proximity to the construction zone. The fencing should be placed at the drip-line of trees to be preserved, as described in the specifications. The tree inventory provided is acceptable, however the number of trees listed to be removed on (Sheet No. 100.LP) (53 Deciduous and 31 Coniferous) does not correlate to the total (Sheet No. 101.LP). This needs to be adjusted when the final plans are submitted. Tree Replacement The sizes of all deciduous replacement trees ((3) three caliper inches) are above the minimum size requirements in the Tree Protection Ordinance for replacement trees. The planting list shows a good choice of species, some native or improved cultivars of natives. Most of the trees and plants chosen are hardy under local growing conditions, relatively insect and disease free and fairly low maintenance. There is good species diversity in the plan. Plant sizes conform to zoning ordinance requirements. TREE CITY U.S.A. Landscape Details and Notes (Sheet No. 220) I have a few recommendations to make in regards to the Planting Notes: The landscape contractor for the project is required to plant trees according to the approved planting detail submitted with the approved landscape plan. This will be checked after planting and any deviations from the detail will need to be corrected before the landscaping will be approved by the City. This needs to be included in the final submitted landscaping plans. Rhus Typhina 'Lacniata' (Cutleaf Staghorn Sumac) (Sheet No. 205.LP) should be substituted with low maintenance shrubs or ornamental grasses. Rhus Typhina 'Lacniata' is high maintenance and has a high tendency to cause suckering. This plant will possibly become difficult to maintain especially with the gate in close proximity as displayed in the plans (Sheet No. 204.LP) and if placed in a courtyard maintenance may become difficult when plants reach full maturity (Sheet No. 207.LP). 2 TREE CITY U.S.A.
