Dear Mr. Donnelly:
Thanks for stopping in last Friday to chat about the remodeling work to the kitchen area of the
above-referenced property, owned by you. You shared photos, showing removal of the drywall
to the kitchen and discussed removal of the wall area, which you indicated was load bearing.
I advised you that in order for you to perform remodeling work, which requires permit and
inspection by State Code or Local Ordinance, you must occupy the unit. As you do not occupy
the unit, a MN license contractor is required to perform construction/remodeling,plumbing,
electrical or mechanical alterations to the unit.
When you left you indicated you were going to reach out to a contractor for the work to the unit
as well as to obtain structural information for the load bearing wall at the kitchen you wished to
open up.
You were advised that no work was to occur at the unit until such time a permit was received and
issued for the work.
Please be reminded that any work occurring to the unit as described above, without a work
permit issued by the City or the State of MN, as appropriate to the work occurring, is a violation
of City Ordinance and/or MN State Law.
Please touch base with me to let me know where you are at with contracting the work and if you
have any questions.
