3.4 Mulch:

4.
4.1 Till the site with a plow, disc, or harrow to a depth of four to ei inches and to the extent
necessar to break up soil clods to the point where the avera clump is less than two inches
in diameter.
4.2 All areas to be sodded and seeded shall be worked until the soil is completel -fined and to
smooth even finish g rade. All holes, depressions and rivulets shall be filled in to ensure no
disruption of established draina patterns. Hand r kin gj pp y b r u to insure that proper
elevation and even g rade is established. All rubble, sticks, branches or stones and extraneous
matter over 1/2" diameter on the surface, which will interfere with the sod, shall be picked up
and removed.
4.3 Prior to fine g radin g of areas to be seeded or sodded, appl non-selective, non-residual
post-emer herbicide labeled for use in wetlands such as Rod e07 herbicide as per
manufacturer=s directions. Allow a minimum of 7 da before disturbin the ve
with other procedures. The label shall be submitted to the project mana for review at
least three da prior to the contemplated date of application. The application shall be
performed in compliance with the herbicide label and state re concernin

pesticide application certification.

5. HERBACEOUS SEEDING
5.4 Seedin shall be completed before pottfed seedlin or plu are planted.
5.5 Seedin shall be conducted between Ma i and June 15 or between October 15 and
freeze up. Seeded areas shall be mulched with clean straw at a rate of 1.5 tons per acre
within three da after seedin is completed and the straw shall be anchored with a disc or
tackifier.
5.3 Grass and flower seed shall be mixed and the seed shall be planted usin the method
outlined below:
Seed shall be sown usin an a t seed drill desi for plantin native g rass
seed. Specified seed drills include the Truax Native Grass Drill (available from Truax
Compan Inc., 3609 Vera Cruz Ave., Mpls., MN 55422, 612-537-6639) and the John
Deere 1550 Power-Till Seeder. A no-till attachment or no-till drill will be used if seed will
be planted into dead sod (see spra areas under 3. 01 -A).
Seed shall be sovtm appro)tirnatel 1/8 to 1/4 inch deep and no deeper than 1/2 inch.
The drill shall be calibrated at half the appropriate seedin rate and each area shall be
drilled twice to help ensure even distribution.

5.5 Within two da after seedin the seeded eireas shall be packed with a rollin packer.
5,6 All seeded areas shall be covered with clean g rain straw mulch or erosion control blanket as
specified. Appl the mulches in accordance with WD OT Standard Specification 2575.3 and
vivith the manufacturer's recommendations. Straw mulch shall be disc anchored.

7J The Contractor shall notif the Landscape Architect that the sodded and seeded areas are
read for acceptance. The Architect has 48 hours after notification b the Contractor to accept
maintenance responsibilit The Contractor shall assume responsibilit durin this 48 hour
period.

8.1 All soil, mulch, or other material brou into paved areas b work operations, shall be
removed promptl keepin these areas clean at all times. Upon completion of soddin and
seedin all remainin debris shall be properl disposed of. All g round areas disturbed as a
result ®f soddin and seedin operations shall be restored to their ori condition or to the
desired new appearance.
9.1 The installation contractor will be responsible for the preparation of a brief mana plan
for maintenance of areas planted with herbaceous materials. This plan must include a
description of mana techni e used and a 10 y ear chart definin annual
work activities.
