Lake Elmo, Minnesota 55042 9/8/04 In response to an application for an additional business at the DDDLLC site in Kern Center, 1 inspected the landscaping at the site the end of July and the end of August. My observations and recommendations are as follows: 1. The maples and ash in front of the building have a lot of branch dieback (probably from lack of water). The dead branches should be pruned and the trees provided with supplemental water (20 gallons per tree every two weeks until ground freezes). 2. There is a dead tree on the south enc of the frontage - this tree should be replaced. 3. Shrubs by building should be pruned. 4. The roses on the southeast corner behind the building have a severe infestation of roseslug sawflies. This will be a continuing problem and will result in the eventual disfigurement and decline of the shrubs. 1 recommend they be replaced with potentillas. 5. The shrub beds by the building closer to Hwy. 5 are weedy and the shrubs should be pruned. 6. The trees around the parking lot of the building closer to Hwy. 5 should have the dead limbs pruned and they should also receive supplemental water. 7. The rip-rap on the northside of the property nearest the mini-golf is very weedy and should be cleaned up. 8. A hackberry in the middle of the property on the north side is very sparse and declining. The tree will not survive and should be replaced. 10. Several of the trees have suckers on the trunk or growing from the base - the suckers should be removed. 11. There is a large bur oak near the SE corner of the rear parking lot, near 55 St.. This tree has a crack (separation) from the main crotch down into the trunk. This tree poses an immediate risk to vehicles and people in the parking lot. This tree should be removed as soon as possible. It has been marked with an orange 'X'. The dead and dying elms along 55 St. will be removed by a city contractor at no cost to you. You will receive a separate mailing regarding elm removal.
