City of Oak Park Heights 14168 57' Street Me Box 2007 * Oak Park Hei MN 55082 • Phone (651 439-4439 • Fax 439-0574 Interoffice Memo To: Ma and Cit Council Rum Public Works Director, Ja Johnson, PE CC: Cit Administrator and Parks, Pla and Recreation Commission rate: 08/20199 Re: Boutwells Landin Gradin Modifications Recommendation: The Cit council authorize the modification of the Boutwells, Landin g radin g plan to create a bowl/amphitheater like structure utilizin the existin depression in the center of the park. The Parks Commission will be holdin a special meetin on Au 23'd to review the possible g radin g chan to Boutwells Landin Park. As desi and approved the g radin g planned was to make two flat areas for the park. The lar of the two flat areas was at street level and the smaller was to be adjacent to the northern ponds. Fillin a natural depression creates the upper area. If the depression is not filled, rather the northern rid are cut out to form an amphitheater or bowl like structure the total flat area will decrease sli The view of the ponds and wetlands will be opened up and a more natural lookin park will be achieved. The lar of the flat areas would be at the pond level versus at the street level. Fi I shows the current g radin g plan with the upper (940 foot elevation) and lower flat areas (934 to 936 foot elevations) hi with bold lines. Fi 2 shows the bowl in curved lines and the upper (940 foot elevation) and lower flat areas (934 to 936 foot elevations) hi with strai lines. On both fi the hill on the south end of the park is marked with a 947 elevation. The bowl structure creates a more natural appearance to the park and provides several opportunities for park development. A shoots and ladder st pla area could be created if the park needs anal indicates that active pla structures are re for this area. For sleddin the bowl adjacent to the hill on the south side of the park provides the maximum vertical drop without havin to g o into the wetlands. VS SA was informed of this idea on Au 16'h. The en side of the pro j ect liked the idea. TREE CITY U.S.A.
