Walgreen's Landscaping
On Wednesday, April 14th, I met with representatives from BPS Construction and the landscaping company to discuss a
few changes in plant species and placement on the Walgreen's site. The changes are as follows:
1. Due to the proximity to the sidewalk and the parking lot for the planting area on the west, they are going to substitute
a more upright flowering crabapple cultivar for the spreading Amur maples.
2. The Amur maples will be planted on the east side below the wall. These will replace the larger ash originally slated to
go there because they can't get a tree spade in there to plant. The Amur maples will also grow better in the shade from
the existing trees than the ash would.
3. On the north side they will plant slightly smaller maples because they can't fit the root balls of the larger trees in the
planting space allowed because of the presence of underground utilities. They will also entirely mulch this bed instead of
trying to grow grass on part of it.
4. On the south side of the plan there is a rectangular area of turf jutting out into a seeded grass area. Instead of
sodding this odd rectangular area, they will put sod three feet beyond the shrub bed, following the edge of the bed, and
seed the rest of the area with grass.
We discussed all the changes and I approved them. They make more sense on site than the original specifications. If
you have any questions regarding this memo, please contact me.
