Re: Ground Elevation at Lowest Opening at 5755 Newberry Ave.,N.
Dear Sir:
Per correction notice dated February 16, 1996 we notified you that the lookout windows on the north side
of the home were nearly 3 feet below the lowest opening indicated on the Certificate of Survey. At this
time we requested that the problem be corrected immediately with the installation of blocks to the approved
elevation and the construction of window wells complying with the Minnesota State Building Code
requirements. We also stated compliance must be met prior to any occupancy.
On August 15, 1996, I was called to do a final inspection,at which time I informed your job supervisor, Mr.
Hanson, that no Certificate of Occupancy would be issued until compliance was met. I also informed him
that a design was to be submitted to the City's engineer for approval prior to the construction of the
retaining wall.
To date,no design has be submitted and a retaining wall has been constructed. The wall as constructed is
unacceptable because it does not offer protection from flooding the window wells.
These are the items to be installed for acceptance:
1). Rain gutters on the North and East roof lines.
2). Additional fill on the outside of the wall with an acceptable grade.
3). A draintile system to both window wells, which must be piped to a sump pump basket.
4). A sump pump is to be installed in the basket with piping to pour outside the wall.
5). A ground-fault interceptor outlet for the pump.
6). Corrections to be made and approved by August 29, 1996.
7). Submit a design with this information for review and approval.
