Call to Order: Chair Weyer called the meeting to order. Present: Vice Chair Chirhart, Commissioner Bye, Arborist Danielson, City Administrator Johnson, Public Works Director Kegley, and Summer Park Program Coordinator Gina Zeuli. Absent: Commission-Liaison Liljegren. II. Approval of Agenda: Commissioner Bye, seconded by Vice Chair Chirhart, moved to approve the Agenda. Carried 3-0. III. Approve Parks Commission Minutes-February 21, 2018: Vice Chair Chirhart, seconded by Commissioner Bye, moved to approve the Minutes. Carried 3-0. IV. Department/Commission Liaison Reports: A. Arborist: Arborist Danielson reported that Minnesota DNR planned to update the Oak Wilt status on April 18, so residents may want to check the status if they were planning on trimming any Oak trees to make sure it was still safe to do so. B. Public Works Director: Public Works Director Kegley reported they would continue cleaning trails and opening park shelters when weather permitted. He also said they ordered the tables and benches the Parks Commission requested, and they would be installing those in Valley View Park and Oak Park Crossing Park. Kegley reported they received seven applications for the summer park attendant positions. C. Other/ Commission Liaison Reports: City Administrator Johnson reported they were "orking with Xcel Energy on the plan for the prairie restoration behind City Hall. Commissioner Bye thanked City Administrator Johnson and Councilmember Runk for attending the Community Showcase on April 14 on behalf of the City. V. Visitor/Public Comment: None VI. Public Hearings: Nome V11. New Business: A.. Parks Commission Vacancy Appointment: Chair Weyer, seconded by Vice Chair Chirhart, moved to recommend approval to the City Council for Hal Peterson and Randy Thoreson to be appointed to the Parks Commission. Carried 3-0. B. 2018 Arbor Dai Ceremonial Tree Planting: Arborist Danielson reported that for the Tree City USA designation, the City was required to plant a tree during Arbor Month. She recommended the planting take place before the next Parks Commission meeting on Monday, May 21 at 6:00 p.m. She said the tree chosen for planting was a Black Hills Spruce. C. 2018 Summer Park Programming: Summer Park Program Coordinator Zeuli provided the Parks Commission with the summer schedule and reviewed some of the planned activities. VIII. Old Business. A. Park Shelter Gutters: City Administrator Johnson reported that the City received bids and took it to the City Council at their last meeting. He said the gutter project would be starting late April or early May. IX. Informational: A. Press Release: Oak Park Heights Tree City USA and Growth Award Winner B. Next Meeting: Monday, May 21 at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall C. Upcoming Council Meetings: Tuesday, April 24 at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, May $ at 6:00 p.m. X.
