PARKS COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES
Tuesday, May 21, 2018 at City Hall
I. Call to Order: Chair Weyer called the meeting to order. Present: Vice Chair Chirhart,
Commissioner Bye, Commissioner Peterson, Commissioner Thoreson, Arborist Danielson,
City Administrator Johnson, and Public Works Director Kegley. Absent: Commission-
Liaison Liljegren.
II. Approval of Agenda: Vice Chair Chirhart, seconded by Commissioner Thoreson, moved to
approve the Agenda. Carried 5-0.
III. Approve Parks Commission Minutes—April 16, 2018: Commissioner Bye, seconded by
Vice Chair Chirhart, moved to approve the Minutes. Carried 5-0.
IV. Department/Commission Liaison Reports:
A. Arborist: Arborist Danielson reported that both the Valley View Park and Swager
Park prairies were mowed on May 2 for the spring mow as part of the restoration.
She said that there would be four weed visits at each of the sites throughout the year.
Danielson also reported that as part of the capital needs ranking, five ash trees at
Autumn Hills Park were to be removed and five new trees were to be planted. She
said that the new trees were planted., and the ash trees were to be removed in
summer.
B. Public Works Director: Public Works Director Kegley reported that the department
was working on getting the park shelters open for the season, and there were five
park attendants scheduled to work in the summer.
C. Other/ Commission Liaison Reports: City Administrator Johnson reported that the
City would be working with two property owners whose properties abutted Valley
View Park to bring in goats for buckthorn management. He stated the City
developed an agreement and would provide it to a firm called Munch Bunch.
V. Visitor/Public Comment: None
VI. Public Hearings: None
VI 1. New Business:
A. Update on Gutter Installations: City Administrator Johnson reported that the gutter
installations at Valley View Park and Cover Park have been completed.
B. Update on Prairie Restoration: City Administrator Johnson reported that the Parks
Commission did a walkthrough of the site, located behind City Hall, prior to the
meeting. He stated the City would continue to work with Xcel Energy.

C. Consider Scheduling Parks Walkthrough: Chair Weyer, seconded by Commissioner
Bye, moved to meet at 5:00 p.m. on Jude 18 at Cover Park and move on to Valley
View and Oak Pirk Crossings Park. Carried 5-0.
Chair Weyer, seconded by Commissioner Thoreson, moved to meet at 5:00 p.m. on.
July 16 at Brekke Park and then go Swager Park and Autumn Hills Park. Carried 5-0.

IX. Informational:
A. Next Meeting: Monday, June 18, 2018 beginning with a park walkthrough at 5:00
p.m. and regular meeting following
B. Party in the Park: Thursday, June 7, 4:30—6:30 p.m. at Brekke Park
C. Upcoming Council Meetings: Tuesday, May 22 at 6:00 p.m.
Tuesday, June 26 at 6:00 p.m.
X. Adjournment: Vice Chair Chirbart, seconded by Commissioner Bye, moved to adjourn.
Carried 5-0.
