Re: Special Event Signage(Banners)&Outdoor Garden Center Lights
August 27,2018 Compliance Request Follow Up
Dear Manny,
Following up on my August 27th request that you attend to the banner removal or obtain a
special event permit and bring the garden center lights into compliance with full cut off
fixtures,I did do a compliance follow up site inspection today.
Banners: Thank you for removing the banners that were placed at the garden center.
Please note that if you have other banners or signs that you wish to place
during the year, you do need to obtain a special event permit. While there is
no cost for the permit, this is required by City Ordinance and you are limited to
50 calendar days per year. You can find the form at City Hall or on our
webpage, under forms and handouts at www.cityofoakparkheights.com.
Garden Center Lights: The light fixtures that hang over the plants, when displayed, are
not all fully compliant. It does appear that all of the shields
have been darkened except for one at the NW corner of the
light rows.
As noted in my earlier communication, commercial outdoor
lighting fixtures(luminaire)are required to comply with the
performance standards outlined in Ordinance Section
401.15.8.7.f.2 as to shielding,intensity,height,location,hours
of operation and glare.
Take inventory of the shields and correct any of those found to
not be full cut off(or darkened)as the other are and then
correct them so that they are compliant.
Fire Lane Parking Signs: While I was on site, I noticed that most of the signs that direct
no parking within the fire lane are covered by the
trees/plantings where they are situated.
Obviously, their being covered makes it difficult for them to be
seen. Please have your maintenance staff trim the trees/plants
back and/or resituate the signs so that they are clearly visible.
This letter directs that prior to Friday, Octobr 12, 2018 you:
1). Bring the exterior garden center light fixture cut off into compliance; and
2). Attend to the "No Parking. Fire Lane" signs, so that they are clearly visible.
I will again follow up with a site visit to confirm compliance status. If the matter is not
resolved, it will be forwarded to the Oak Park Heights Police Department and/or City
Attorney's office for citation consideration. Please note that if citation is made, it will be
made to you personally.
Your prompt attention to the above request is essential. I'd be happy to meet you to discuss
the above requests if you feel that would be helpful. Please contact me immediately with
any questions you may have and/or to schedule an appointment to discuss them.
Sincerely,
PLANNING &CODE ENFORCEMENT
