Johnson; Jim Butler; Scott Richards; Mark Vierling Subject: Xcel Energy Fly Ash Pit - access road changes OPH Staff Page 1 of 1 I have reviewed the plans (dated 1117106) submitted by Xcel Energy for modifications to the existing permitted construction at the fly ash site and visited the site to take a look at the proposed area of impact. It looks like there are only 2 large trees within the area of the proposed roadway and grading (bur oak approx. 12 in. and pin oak approx. 26 in. in diameter). There are numerous smaller woody trees (saplings) such as buckthorn, boxelder, elm and black locust, as well as some shrubs in the proposed area of construction. There are also a few trees in the area by the cul -de -sac and on the west - facing slope. The plans state that existing trees in the area of construction will be removed and replanted (replaced ?) so that should take care of tree replacement. They should submit an itemized list of trees to be removed (species, size) as well as what (and where) they will be planting to replace those trees. I wonder about wetland impacts since the southern part of the proposed construction will get into an area of wetland vegetation. This would be a question for the city's engineering consultants regarding adequate silt fencing placement and any mitigation. Kathy Widin OPH Arborist 3/24/2006
