Additional Tree Removal at King Landfill
Kathy,
Xcel Energy will be expanding the King Landfill to the East (near the Bed & Breakfast) so that the
remaining trees along the hillside will be removed. 1 have conducted an inventory of significant trees
as defined by the City of Oak Park Heights Ordinance 1307.030. This survey was conducted on April
4, 2006, with the following results:
Significant Trees
Cottonwood (Populus deltoides) - 1 -44 inch dbh
Red Oak (Quercus rubra) - 2- 16 inch dbh, 1 -15 inch dbh
Black Locust (Robinia pseudo - acacia) - 1 -8 inch dbh, 3 -- 10 inch dbh, 2 -13 inch dbh, 1 - 14 inch
dbh, 1 - 18 inch dbh
Total number of trees: 12
The Ordinance requires replacement of one 2.5 inch diameter new tree for every two significant trees
removed, therefore, Xcel Energy is required to replace 6 trees. Since each new tree will cost
approximately $400 the total replacement cost for these six trees is $2400. It is our preference to
send a check in this amount payable to the City of Oak Park Heights rather than plant the trees on
site, per Ordinance 1307.070 Item 10.
If you have any questions or need to conduct a site visit please let me know.
