Subject: Xcel Energy - King Plant Tree Removal
OPH Staff -
I have received an inventor)/ and map of the trees which may be removed during the construction project(s) at the Xcel
King plant. There are 13 trees which may be affected, and most of these are cottonwood. All the trees are naturally
occurring, fast-growing species. 1 have also met Ms. Sharon Sarappo (Xcel Sr. Environ. Analyst) and Evan Dean (Xcel
Project Engineer) on the site and inspected the sites where tree removal is proposed to occur. One site is by a proposed
parking area and the other site is by an area which is to be used for storage and staging of construction materials. Based
on the small number and the types of trees to be removed, I told the Xcel representatives that a full tree inventory of the
site would not be necessary for this project. I asked that they provide a final inventory of trees removed once the
construction in those areas has been completed. At that time, I will review the tree removal and recommend tree
replacement at a rate of one 2.5 in. B&B tree for every two trees removed. If you have any questions regarding this
memo, please contact me.
