This review is limited to the provisions of the Minnesota Plumbing Code,Minnesota Rules, Chapter 4714 and assumes the data on which the design is based are correct. Approval is contingent upon meeting the requirements listed below. A copy of the approved plans and this report must be retained at the project location. INSPECTIONS: All plumbing installations must be tested and inspected in accordance with the requirements of the Minnesota Plumbing Code. No plumbing work may be covered prior to inspection. The contractor/installer must obtain all required inspection permits from the Oak Park Heights Building Official,Julie Hultman. REQUIREMENTS: 1. Hydromechanical grease interceptors must be approved by the administrative authority,may serve only fixtures discharging greasy waste, and must meet Section 1014.2. No food waste disposer or dishwasher may be connected unless specifically permitted by the administrative authority. The installation must include: a. The interceptor must comply with ASME Al 12.14.3,CSA B481,or PDI G-101 and be so marked on a permanent identification label. b. The minimum interceptor rating in gallons per minute is the volume of the connected sink compartments in cubic inches multiplied by a fill factor of 0.75,divided by 231 and adding any equipment discharge. For a two-minute drain period,divide the sink calculation by two and add any equipment discharge. c. The interceptor and flow control must be readily accessible. Vents serving external flow controls must connect to the sanitary vent system. d. The interceptor discharge line must be vented. e. A 15-minute manometer test at 1-inch of water column per Section 712.5 is required. f. The interceptor must be maintained in efficient operating condition. 2. Water supply connections to fixtures or equipment which have inlets below the spill line must be provided with an approved backflow preventer(see Section 602.3). 3. Each horizontal drain branch,including floor drain branches,shall be provided with a cleanout at its upper terminal with the following exceptions(see Section 707.4): a. A cleanout is not required if the drain branch line is less than five feet,unless it serves sinks or urinals. b. A cleanout is not required on a drain that is 72 degrees or less from the vertical 4. Indirect waste pipes in food and beverage establishments must meet the requirements of Section 801.2: a. Food-handling fixtures shall be trapped,and piped separately discharging by an air gap. The drain must be the larger of the equipment outlet or 3/-inch. c. All other indirect wastes must be at least 1-inch in size. d. Except for refrigeration coils and ice makers,indirect waste length may not exceed 15 feet. 5. A single 2-inch trap may serve the three-compartment sink if the trap is located beneath the center compartment not more than 30 inches from each compartment outlet(see Section 1001.1). 6. In no case shall water from roofs be allowed to flow upon the public sidewalk(see Section 1101.1). This shall include the discharge from all rainwater conductors,including overflow roof drains. 7. Unions shall be installed not more than 12 inches from water heating or regulating equipment,water conditioning tanks,and similar equipment requiring service by removal or replacement(see Section 609.5). 8. Equipment used for heating water or storing hot water shall be protected by approved safety devices in accordance with Sections 504.4,504.5, and 504.6. 9. The water softener must have a bypass valve permitting equipment service or removal without shutting off the water service completely(see Minnesota Statutes,Chapter 326B.50). 10. Water conditioning equipment must discharge to the drainage system by an air gap per Table 603.3.1,or an air gap device per Table 603.2,NSF 58,or IAPMO PS 65 (see Section 611.2). 11. Tubing used in water conditioning installations must comply with NSF Standard 14,42,44,53,55, 58,62, or the appropriate material standard in Table 1401.1 (see Section 611.3). 12. PVC drain,waste, and vent systems shall meet Table 701.1, Section 705.7, and Installation Standard 9: a. Pipe must meet ASTM D1785,D2665,F891, or F1488. b. Joints must be mechanical or push-on with an elastomeric seal,or solvent welded using ASTM F656 purple primer and ASTM D2564 solvent cement. Schedule 80 pipe may be threaded. 13. Above-grade horizontal pipe must be supported per Table 313.1 and the installation standard: a. Plastic drain,waste, and vent pipe: At least every 48 inches and at each horizontal branch. b. Cast iron: Each horizontal branch connection and every other joint unless over 4 feet,then at each joint. c. Copper tubing with soldered or brazed joints(11/2-inch or less): at least every 6 feet. d. Copper tubing with soldered or brazed joints(2-inch or over): at least every 10 feet. e. PEX pipe: 32 inches for 1-inch and smaller,4 feet for larger sizes. 14. Cast iron drain,waste,and vent pipe must comply with ASTM A74,CISPI 301,or ASTM A888(see Table 701.1, Section 701.1(6),and Installation Standard 6). Hubless pipe and fittings shall be marked with country of origin,identification of the original manufacturer,and markings required by referenced standards. 15. The water distribution system shall be disinfected per Section 609.9. 16. The plumbing system shall be tested in accordance with Sections 609.4 and 712.0. Verify that the existing water supply and waste systems are sized for the added fixtures(see Sections 610.7 through 610.12 and 703.0). 18. Valves should be installed permitting the water supply to each individual fixture to be shut off without disrupting any other portion of the building. An accessible control valve shall be installed ahead of each slip joint connection at a plumbing fixture(see Section 606.5). NOTES: 1. This project consists of remodeling an existing building. The plumbing installation includes lavatories, water closets,hand sinks, a three compartment sink,a tell-tale floor drain,water heaters,a water softener, and a grease interceptor. 2. This facility will be served by existing connections to municipal water and sewer services. 3. The licensing authority may require additional plans,information and fee. Changes to the plumbing system may result. Any significant plumbing changes must be approved by this office prior to installation. 4.
