® Super America and Valvoline Lan dsepin ( Neal. Ave,. & 58t1i St,)
On June 4th, I inspected the landscapin at the Super America / Valvoline site on
the corner of Neal Ave. & 58th to After examinin the trees and shrubs, and comparin
them to the ori landscape plan, I have the followin comments:
1, Several substitutions of plant species were made:
ao red maple was substituted for pin. oaks in all areas
bo white spruce was substituted for Austrian pine
c. varie hosta were substituted for da on the SW comer of site
Red maple and white spruce will work well on this site, the varie hosta,
however, are not suited to full sun exposure and, over time, will probabl not do as well in
that location as the da which were ori specified.
2. Several plants have died or are not lookin ver g ood.-
a. 'Scandia' and 'Moor--Dense'junipers - 5-6 around site are stru or are
alread dead
b. 'Ma Carpet' spirea - I ( plantin g on NW comer of Valvoline.) is alread dead
3. The soil in the plantin bed on the NW corner of Valvoline was observed to be ver wet
on June 4th, with standin water. The should check their irri s to see if it is
malfunctionin If this is not corrected, more plants will die.
Overall, the plant material looks g ood. I had alread spoken with the landscape contractor
after an first inspection a few weeks a and he removed the twine and burlap from the
tops of the root balls of B&B ( balled & burlapped) plant material. I have spoken recentl
Frith a representative from Kraus-Anderson Construction and the have contracted with a
native plant landscape coo to seed the banks of the detention pond. This should be
completed in the next few weeks. The plant material should be checked a b the Cit
in September and next Ma to note an other plants which have died and should be
replaced under the one- guarantee.
