Call to Order: Chair Chirhart called the meeting to order. Present: Vice Chair Weyer, Commissioner Hoeppner, Commissioner Thoreson, City Administrator Johnson, Public Works Director Kegley, Arborist Danielson, Summer Park Program Coordinator Zeuli, and Commission Liaison Johnson. Absent: Commissioner Peterson. 11. Approval of Agenda: Commissioner Thoreson, seconded by Commissioner Hoeppner, moved to approve the Agenda. Carried 4-0. III. Approve Parks and Trails Commission Minutes May 18, 2020: Commissioner Hoeppner, seconded by Commissioner Thoreson, moved to approve the Minutes. Carried 4-0. 1V. Department/Commission Liaison Reports: A. Arborist: Arborist Danielson reported the first weed control visit took place on June 2 at the Swager and Valley View Park prairie restoration areas, and the second weed control visit took place on July 13. She said there would be one more visit during the growing season. B. Public Works Director: Public Works Director Kegley provided a report on completed park projects and maintenance. C. Other/Commission Liaison Reports: City Administrator Johnson reported that the City's contractor would be completing the trail on Oakgreen Avenue connecting 55th and 56'x' Streets up to the corner at 58th Street. He also reported Public Works Director Kegley was working on an updated trail map showing all the new trail additions. Summer Park Program Coordinator Gina Zeuli provided a report on the park program. She said the curbside craft project pickup was successful. V. Visitor/Public Comment: None VI. Public Hearings: None VII. Old Business: A. 2020 Park Walkthrou h Project Rankin : Public Works Director Kegley reported that he received some project ranking sheets from the Commissioners and he compiled a list from those for the Commissioners to use as a guide. The Commissioners discussed the items on the list and gave direction to city staff. Commissioner Thoreson, seconded by Vice Chair Weyer, moved to accept the Public Works Director's report and direct him to move forward. Carried 4-0. Brekke Park Playground Equipment: Public Works Director Kegley reported that the spring broke on the seesaw at Brekke Park, and he said the replacement part cost was only a few hundred dollars less than a new seesaw. He asked the Parks and Trails Commissioners whether they wanted staff to replace the part, replace the seesaw, or put a different piece of equipment in. Commissioner Thoreson, seconded by Vice Chair Weyer, moved to direct staff to research various models and different options within a reasonable cost, and bring a report back for the Parks and Trails Commissioners to review and take action on. Carried 4-0. IX. Informational: A. Next Meeting: Monday, August 17, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom B. Upcoming Council Meeting: Tuesday, July 28, at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall X. The cost to repair the seesaw is $1,180.70 and the cost for a new updated version of the current seesaw is $3,144.81. The Parks Commission requested City staff look into other equipment options to replace the seesaw with for the August 2020 meeting. Included in the table on the following page is an Option Letter to correspond with the image in the meeting packet, an Option Description of the piece of playground equipment quoted and the Quoted Total Cost. The equipment included in the table meets the ATSM Use Zone for the area of the playground where the existing seesaw is located and is recommended for the site.
