Re : Robert & Pearl Torgerson - Request for Variance
The Torgerson' s are requesting a variance in order to put an
addition on to an existing front porch on a house they own at
15242 64th Street . This addition would reduce their front yard
setback from 30 feet, the required minimum, to approximately 26
feet .
They feel the variance is justified because the house adjacent to
the one they own, along with other homes on the block, currently
has less than the required front yard setback. They also feel
the variance is justified because they are in the process of
fixing up the house and the porch addition will make it more
attractive . The home is located in an older neighborhood where
many of the homes were built before the zoning ordinance and
front yard setbacks were adopted.
Building Inspector Jim Butler recommends approval of the
variance . The section of the Zoning Ordinance governing setbacks
is 401 . 03 .C.4 on page 46 of the Zoning Ordinance .

AS DESCRIBED IN THE DRAWING BELOW THERE ARE THREE DWELLINGS ENCROACHING THE SET-
BACK REQUIREMENTS, TWO OF WHICH HAVE PORCH EXTENSIONS THAT WERE CONSTRUCTED WITH-
OUT PERMITS. ALL OF THE HOMES WEST OF THESE DWELLINGS COMPLY WITH THE THIRTY
FOOT FRONT YARD SETBACK REQUIREMENT.
THE ORIGINAL PORCH AT 15225 64th ST. N. WAS IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE THIRTY FOOT
SETBACK.
