Dear Karen:
With regard to your inquiry as to firewall construction at 5861 and 5873 Oxboro Ave. N., please
be advised that firewall placement serves as the fire separation between the two units and would
have been required by the MN State Building Code at the time of the units were constructed in
1998. The fire separation construction as part of the dwelling framing is placed so that each unit
is individually protected from the other from fire and they are treated as single living units.
The plans are no longer available for review to provide documentation to that affect for you;
however, the Building Official at the time of their construction did issue a Certificate of
Occupancy for both units 5861 and 5873 Oxboro Ave.N. was issued on February 23, 1999,
which would indicate that all MN Code required elements were satisfactorily in place.
