The plan is minimal and could be improved with planters by the entrance to the store, foundation plantings or other plantings around the perimeter of the parking lot. There are more parking spaces than needed, so I would recommend a larger landscaped median in the parking lot. 2. The species recommended for planting are fine, being attractive, hardy and low maintenance plants. There should, however, be greater diversity in tree species planted and changes made in tree locations. 3. The "Autumn Blaze" maple which are specified for the landscape are too large to be planted in small medians which extend into parking lots or in medians only 10 ft. wide. The surface roots of these trees will eventually lift curbing and sidewalks if planted too close to hardscape. In the NE corner of the parking lot and S of the building, pull the AB maples further back from the curb into the lawn area to increase available rooting space. In small or narrow medians it would be better to plant smaller ornamental trees such as disease - resistant flowering crabapples or Japanese tree lilacs. 4. A "Planting Detail" should be included on the landscape plan which illustrates how trees are to be planted. This detail should include the removal of twine, burlap and top rungs of any wire basket from B &B planting stock. All plantings will be inspected and proper tree planting practices will be required. Please contact me if you have any questions. Please forward my comments to the developer. Kathy Widin OPH Arborist 1
