Re: Gas line and garage furnace
Dear Mr. Fisher,
On February 17, 2009, I spoke to you about the gas line and furnace that you had installed in your garage. I stated
the following:
1) A permit is required and installation without a permit is a violation of the MN State Building Code.
2) The furnace was not installed in compliance to the Code or the manufacturer's installation specifications.
3) You were to shut the gas off to the appliance, which you did while I was present.
As I stated, you were to make an application for a building permit and with this application you were to submit
written approval from Sunnyside l's Home Owner's Association for this installation. Until a permit is issued, the
gas line to the furnace is to be disconnected immediately and removed from the exterior. In addition, where you
made connection to the exterior gas line must be properly plugged.
On March 206,I addressed a letter to you requesting you to comply with the above violations no later than March
23rd. Compliance was not met by this date, but I did receive a call from you requesting to meet and discuss these
issues. That meeting was held on March 26`h,at that time you had informed me that you had met with the board
and they requested an alternate design for the installation of the gas line.
At this meeting I informed you that on that same day I received a letter from the board stating that you were in
violation of their by-laws with the installation of the furnace and gas line on the exterior of the building. You
stated that you would submit an alternate design plan to the board for approval. I also requested that you shut off
and plug the main gas line, disconnect and remove the gas line that was fastened to the garage exterior wall.
To date you have not done this and I have received a call from a board member stating that you have not
submitted that design and that approval of the installation of a gas furnace was not approved. Once again I am
directing you to shut off and plug the main gas line, disconnect and remove the gas line from the exterior garage
wall, and remove the vent piping and cap by April 3,2009. If compliance is not met by this date the City shall take
further legal action as prescribed by City Ordinance for misdemeanor violations.
Sincerely,
Jim Butler
