Re: Gas line and garage furnace
Dear Mr. Fisher,
On February 17, 2009, I spoke to you about the gas line and furnace that you had installed in
your garage. I stated the following:
1) A permit is required and installation without a permit is a violation of the MN State
Building Code.
2) The furnace was not installed in compliance to the Code or the manufacturer's
installation specifications.
3) You were to shut the gas off to the appliance, which you did while I was present.
As I stated, you were to make an application for a building permit and with this application you
were to submit written approval from Sunnyside l's Home Owner's Association for this
installation. Until a permit is issued, the gas line to the furnace is to be disconnected
immediately and removed from the exterior. In addition, where you made connection to the
exterior gas line must be properly plugged.
The purpose of the Building Code into provide standards to ensure the health, safety, and
general welfare of the community, and violations to the State Building Code adopted by the
City are considered a misdemeanor offense. I shall make a re-inspection on Monday, March 23,
2009. If the gas line is not removed, I will assume that you have no intention to comply with
the Code, and I will be left with no alternative but to commence enforcement through legal
remedy as prescribed by City Ordinance for misdemeanor violations.
