according to: (1) the conditions of this permit; (2) the
approval plans and specifications; (3) the applicable city
approvals, Ordinances, and Codes; and, (4) the State Building
Code. This permit is for only the work described, and does
not grant permission for additional or related work which
requires separate permits. This permit will expire and become
null and void if work is not started within 180 days, or if work
is suspended or abandoned for a period of 180 days any time

On Tuesday, September 16th, 2025, an engineer from Complete Building Solutions (CBS) was
brought onsite. Our assessment and analysis are summarized below.
A non -intrusive investigation was performed, as many of the structural members were hidden,
the design is based on what is visible during the site visit and on traditional construction
practices. If, after demolition, the conditions are different or a structural issue is uncovered,
please contact CBS, and allow for time to schedule a site visit and re -analysis of the design
based on uncovered conditions. All measurements provided are the max allowable
length/height (due to construction renovation variables that occur) and exact member
measurements shall be field verified. CBS utilizes the Minnesota Residential Building Code 2020
"MNRBC2020" in its analysis. Unless specified in this report, follow this building code
requirement.
Background Summary
CBS was retained to perform an on -site evaluation of the home's structural integrity following a
fire that originated on the top of the flat roof at the exterior edge of the building. The fire
occurred over a covered porch.
Structural Assessment of Building
Fire -Damaged Members:
Topside Damage (Figure 2)
• Remove original roofing membrane and insulation down to the roof sheathing
• Exterior Curb. Replace minimum 8'-0" length of curb, match with existing curb for heigh and
slope
• Wood Sheathing. Match existing thickness, about %Z", remove to existing seam
• Insulation. Replace.
■ Separation Curb. Replace with solid sawn wood members that match the height and width of
the existing separation curb
■ Roof Rafters. Replace with similar sized.
Further damaged may be noted as they become uncovered. Replace all damaged members.

Underside Damage (See Figure 1)
• Ceiling Joists. Replace all at the porch
o Ceiling Joists: 2x6; Spruce -Pine -Fir #1/2 @ 16" on -center
• Joist Hangers: LUS26, Simpson Strong -Tie or equivalent
• Roof Rafters. Replace all at the porch
o Roof Rafters: 2x8; Spruce -Pine -Fir #1/2 @ 16" on -center
■ Joist Hangers: LUS26, Simpson Strong -Tie or equivalent
• End Beam. Replace.
o End Beam: (2) 2x12; 13'-0", field verify
• Beam Connectors: Install a flat plate along the exterior face and an angle as a seat
underneath the beam
o Flat Plate: TJC57 Jack Truss Connector, Simpson Strong -Tie or equivalent; fasten with
#9x2-1/2" SD Simpson Screws
o Angle Seat: A23 Angle, Simpson Strong -Tie or equivalent; fasten with #9x1-1/2" SD
Simpson Screws
