These units were constructed in 1979 under the 1976 Uniform Building Code and with the basements to be used as an uninhabitable storage area. At this time these areas area still to be used as a storage area, as such only one exit is required. That exit is the stairs and the use of the glass blocks is complying with the Building Code. Please note that if the use is to change to where this area is to be used as a habitable space, such as a bedroom, the Building Code would require the installation of an egress window, a smoke detector within the bedroom(s), and a smoke detector located in the hall leading to the bedroom.
