Wiin 8/7199 Nfunicipal Arborist City Qf Oalk Park 1 ei hts Landscape Plan AmericInn Hotel & Suites I reviewed the plan dated 7/29/99 and have the following comments: 1. The pfan overalI Zoo s good and shoul d compfenrrent the building an d the parking Iot. Most species selected are harder, have fair Lo good imcc L and disease r sista cc and mform well in the landscape. 2. The medians in the parking lots are too narrow to support the growth of trees such as ' ctmon ' Iind n. I rmununcad that ornamental trees such as cockspur hawthorn or flo exing crabappics be planted in those locations Ynstead. 3. Colorado spruce should not be planted in the median by the parking lot. It wi I I Wri aL l r not do well in such a li.}caLi ii. Its position would also cause sight problems for dr'vers. 4, Norway maples on the west side of the building - these are not native trees and often suffer winter injury such as di a cud trunk splitting. I rc orx mend wrapping the trunks of these trees w1t h tree wrap from No v. - March each r ear u n ri I they are aE /east l q.ix j j2 s in li arnete r. Unfortunately, mosE of our native nrmp es also split when planted in a site with south or west exposures. S. `Pink Spire' flowering crabapple is susceptible to several fungal diseases such as apple scab and fireblighE. I would ins wad r cummetid a l Iy disease resistant crab such as ` r iricFire', 'Indian Steer' or "Prof. Sprenger '. the plant sizes proposed correspond to code requirements 7. 1n the T1 a ti n g Notes' for the con t â–ºctor, pfease add the fol low ing: after setting B &B stock in the pla tin hole and adj tin to the final p . ti ir, nlov the twine around the mm at the top o e root ba II and remove or fo I d doer n the top of the burlap co v en n g the root ball.
