On 3129199 I visited the site of the new Burger King restaurant on Neal Ave. in Oak
Park l ei ghLs. I exami the l which has gone i n sea far and co i t Lb
landscape plan which was originally submitted. I have the following comments about the
landscaping:
I. 'I'he landscaping has not been completed. Most of the trees and shrubs have been
planted, however, there is no scud yet and the pem i als and animals ha v c uut. Wvn
put in, The landscaping 'w hich was planted adhcres to the original plan with the
following exceptions:
a. 5 Norway maples and l linden were planted instead of the 6 Freeman maples
b. a sugar maple has been substituted for the `Patrnore¢ ash by the curve of the
dti ve-- through
c.some plants have not been put in:
9 o the Mugho pine (by the amai entrance)
25 of the `Goldi'larne' spirea. (bed by the curve in the drive - through)
7 'Li pn' ncess Y spirea (in the bed by the order board)
2. The plant material generally looks alive at the present time; however, all the trees and the
large scrvi c:ebc n slir , ubs whi were balled & burlappcd planting stock have rope
still t cd around the base of the hunks the burlap has not been folded down into the
planting holes and the tops of the wire baskets have not been removed. In many
cases the burlap of the root ball is exposed and the trees will die if this is
not corrected immediately. The following things need to be done.
a. by Fri. 4!2 water the root balls and immediately cover any exposed burlap with
4 inches of mvisL w«c a C i ps or• shredded bark mulch until the ro and
burlap and wire can be removed
h. carefully cut and remove all the rope that secures the top of the basket or ball to
the tree trunks
c. carefully excavate around the sides of the root balls and expose the top half of
the ball - then reYno the burla p froin die top 1/3 of the root ball and fold it down
into the hole or etit. it off and discard it. If there is a wire basket holding the root
ball, cut off the top half of the basket with bolt Gutters and remove it.
 d. right alter cutting off
the basket put the dirt back in the hole around the root. ball.
Water the root ball and cover it with 2 inub of soil Mulch the trccs and shrubs
with 4 inches of wood chips or .Shredded bark mulch and again water well
