RE: Bayport Police Admin. Porposal
As we recently discussed, if there is ever going to be an opportunity for Bayport and
Oak Park Heights to cut any costs in the area of police protection, now would apparently
be the time.
I beleive that our police department could offer Bayport the opportunity to function
with a full -time, four man police dept. by offering administration of the dept. and
by reducing the daily work schedule to twenty hours of on duty coverage by a Bayport
Police Officer. Our agency could respond to radio calls during the four hours of no
coverage and could send one of our units to tour the community twice if not three
times during this four hour period.
A proposal of this type could be done on a trial basis. If Bayport finds that they
are not satisfied it would simply take hiring their own police chief and they would
be back to full strength with their own agency.
If Bayport is happy with this type of agreement we could work on a yearly contract
basis.
If you find any interest by members of the Bayport City Council please advise me and
I can draw up a workable schedule to present. I am aware thatthe Washington County
Sheriff submitted a proposal last night to take over all functions of the existing
agency, however, I have no indication if the representatives from Bayport are inter-
ested.
