Out of 148 trees originally planted, 15 are dead and another 7 are almost dead, for a to of22 trees. The species totals are ea follows: hochberry(4). basswood (3) birch (11). spruce /1\ flowering crab (2). and maple ('). Aspruma` was planted in the front, to fill ine gap inthe spruce al TnaU,ime|szdaad. ootofthedead oeeoreonthakof th - debononbasin area, closer to the parking lot. Some of' the dead birch are on the sides of the detention basin. The oak, aspen and ash which have been planted out there generally look better than the other species. Overall, most trees are not grow well, primarily due to the lack of supplemental watering at the site. At this point, trees should bm re-evaluated (n May 2OO2.after leaves are out, and any dead trees should be replaced ot that time. The property owner should be sure to water the new trees well once per week for the first two growing seasons, or they will continue to lose trees. He Kathy Widin Municipal Arborist Cit of Oak Park
