Julie Hultman From: Jay Johnson Sent: Monday, March 08, 2004 8:46 AM To: Jim Butler; 'dan.parks©a westwoodps.com'; Dennis Pastier (E- mail); 'mknutson a@amconconstruction.com' Cc: Eric A. Johnson; Julie Hultman Subject: Review of new Grading and Utility Plans I will be in the field most of the morning today and not in the office until afternoon on Tuesday. Jay E. Johnson, P.E. Public Works Director City of Oak Park Heights 651- 439 --4439 651 -642 -7213 Pager 651- 429 -0574 Fax 1 06 oi- C The first two hydrants 1 checked had different ground elevations specified on the utility plan than is indicated on the grading plans. The hydrant South East of Kohls is specified as 934.0 ground elevation on the utility plans. On the grading plan it is shown uphill of the 936 contour line. The hydrant at the SE corner of the new buildings is specified ground elevation of 941.0 but it is behind the curb and the nearest parking lot elevations are shown as 941.3 and 941.4. assuming that the curb 0.5 high the TC nearest the hydrant will be 941.85. Since the hydrant is uphill from the curb the true ground elevation will be around 942. Only one storm water crossing over the water main is specified to be insulated. Any point where the water main crosses under the at storm sewer line and the depth of the water line minus the diameter of the storm sewer is less than the 7.5 foot minimum cover should be insulated. 1 also have concern that the TJ Maxx Water line goes under the what appears to be a loading ramp where the cover is reduced. this section of pipe needs to be either installed deeper or insulated. Neither street connection to Norrel is designed or designated as construction entrances and should not be used except when the first lift of paving is completed or when a properly designed erosion control construction entrance is built.
