HomeMy WebLinkAbout2006-12-14 Joel Nichols Public LtrDear Mayor and Council:
As you may know, this application has been made in order to permit us to renovate David Kottis house so that it will
be wheelchair accessible. The work will including the installation of a sheltered wheel chair lift and removal of
wheelchair obstacles throughout the house. This work will permit David to return to his own home in the City of
Oak Park Heights rather than be required to give up his long-time residence and move elsewhere following his
severe injuries in a motorcycle accident earlier this year.
Materials for the renovation are being purchased with ftmds provided by David's friends_ neighbors and co-workers
through fund-raising efforts. The labor to accomplish the renovation is being donated by friends, neighbors and co-
workers. No financial profit is being sought by or paid to the volunteers who will work on this house.
Accordingly. I would like to ask whether the City would consider waiving some of the fees involved in handling this
request. David Kott has not asked for this or any other help, rather, it is being sought by those involved in the
ftmdraising and construction because any reduction that can be granted would be devoted to use in renovating the
house to remove obstacles to wheelchair use. It would permit us to maximize the amounts available to actually
retrofit the house for wheelchair accessability.
Whatever your decision on the matter of the fees may be, we would like to thank the City of Oak Park Heights, its
administrator, building officials and council for their prompt, professional and helpful handling of this application.
Thank you very much.
Since
oel Nichols
on behalf of David Kott.
