Widin [kdwidin a@comcast. net] Wednesday, May 27, 2009 7:47 AM Eric Johnson; Mark Vierling (E- mail); Dennis Postler (E- mail); Scott Richards; Jimmy Butler; Judy Hoist; Julie Hultman; Tom Ozzello; ekellogg@landform.net McDonald's - Tree Removal and Landscaping 1 have reviewed the plans submitted for the McDonald's re- development project (dated 5/12/09) and have the following comments: 1. The plan is attractive and should complement the project and the site. 2. Plant materials chosen are acceptable, being hardy, low maintenance, and relatively free of serious insect or disease problems which would increase maintenance and shorten a plant's landscape life. The deciduous and ornamental trees are cultivars of native species. Sizes are appropriate for this type of project. 3. In the plant list, the daylily is listed under "coniferous shrubs" (typo) rather than "perennials" 4. A "Planting Detail" is required but was not included with this set of plans. I have talked with Eric Kellogg, and he will provide that at the site review meeting 5/27 5. The parcel is over an acre in size, so is subject to the OPH Tree Preservation ordinance. a. the removal /tree replacement table shown on the landscape plan lists 9 trees to be removed. The demolition plan shows 12 trees to be removed. The Japanese tree lilacs east of the exit are not listed, but are shown on the plan to be removed b. U nder "proposed replacement" are listed 8 crabapple trees, but 6 serviceberry are shown in the plan and on the "plant schedule ". c. based on the caliper inches to be removed according to the tree replacement table on the plan (66 out of 122), and the caliper inches represented on the plan and plant schedule (49.5), I have calculated the required replacement inches to be: 0. The plan shows a required replacement amount of 72 caliper inches. d. the developer should check their demolition and landscape documents, calculate actual total caliper inches and removal caliper inches again and also re- calculate the required replacement. This can be sent to me via email for confirmation. Please contact me if you have any questions regarding this plan review. Kathy Widin OPH Arborist 1
