DPH Staff, Todd Erickoon, Ken Hooge,
ivisited the McKean Square site onBM7 and have the following
comments:
1 Fence is still down by the east entrance in front of Kiefer oaks with soil
piled on it - this should be put back up so Moan provide a barrier to protect
the from further encroachment once the road
oonstruor/omgraomgresumeo.
2. Fencing ieup around several oaks bv the new detention basin - this will
help protect these trees. Wood chip mulch on the soil around these trees
would help conserve moisture and keep roots from dying.
3. | noticed that the undergrowth, mostly buohthorn, has been removed
from around the oaks mnthe knoll in the middle of the property. Buckthorn
stumps should be painted after cutting with Round-Up (2596active
ingredient solution) to prevent re-sprouting. This is the safest herbicide to
use with the least carryover to surrounding trees. Do not use obrush
killer containing trio|o this can sometimes move tooveretory trees and
kill them. Mulch the cleared areas under the oaks with 8 inches wood
chips out to branch spread oftreeet000nsen/aao(|moietureandproteot
the root systems. This is critical during this hot dry weather when the
trees are close to construction and underatory plants have been removed.
4. One large oak on the GE edge of the small wetland (north side ofknoll)
has am old lightning injury and has a lot of decay and cracks in the trunk.
This tree io hazardous and should beremoved. if you would like meto
mark it, let me know and I'll doit next time IQoout.
