Johnson; Jay Johnson; Dennis Postler; Scott Richards Subject: Tree Protection/Inspections McKean Square OPH Staff, Todd Erickson, Tom Abel and Ken Hooge: | have visited the McKean Square site several times inthe past two weeks and have the following comments regarding construction activity, tree protection and potentially hazardous trees: 1. Mulching trees: now that there has been some rain it would be good to mulch the root systems of oaks in d near construction areas with 4 in. wood chip mulch, unless area has been seeded with grass. When mulching, there should be little orno vehicle movement under the branch spread of the trees, to avoid soil compaction. Oaks around and south of the small wetland mid-property are on example ofan area where mulching was recommended. 2. A bur oak (approx. 24 in. diameter) just west of the small wetland mid-property and approx. 2O ft. south ofabuilding, has a large decay column in the main trunk and is potentially hazardous. | painted on orange mark on the south side of the base to identify the tree. | recommend removal. 3.| marked a bur oak on the 8E corner of the small wetland mid-property with an orange ')<'ot eye level on the northeast side. This tree ioquite decayed and iaat risk for failure. This tree should beremoved. 4.A pin oak on the 8VV side of the small wetland mid-property isbrohen off and has o large hanging limb portion |n the top of the tree. This tree ia extremely hazardous to passers-by and ot least the hanging portion should be removed very soon. 5. Silt fence im down on the west side of the small wetland mid-property. 6 Tree protection fencing is down behind the building on the west side of the oak group just south of the small wetland mid'property. This should be put back up. 7. Building materials have been placed on soil over the roots of pines on the west side of the second pine grouping just west as one drives south om the entrance road. These building materials should be moved toen open area. msthv\Widin DPHArbohst
