Subject: McKean Square - Tree Protection
McKean Square Project &DPHStaff:
| inspected the McKean Souona project site on 10/22. There are several issues regarding tree protection:
1. Additional pines were removed in the southwest corner toaccommodate a change in building deeign/oon8tnuotion.
Please provide the City with a list of trees removed.
2. Apparently for the sake of expediency, some trees have had protruding limbs knocked off b construction equipment
rather than having trees properly pruned. Please have these trees (and any others with branches in the way of
construction) pruned ao soon aa possible to prevent further injury.
3. There are numerous areas where the tree protection fencing has either been driven over or been taken down to
accommodate construction equipment/eotiv]tieo. The removal of fencing results in further construction impacts ontreea
which were designated tobesaved. This increases tree decline and death aoa result of construction and will have en
impact on both the aesthetics and tree replacement requirement of the development.
Note: In order to minimize further damage to trees on site, tree protection
fencing should be put back upin all areas. ]t should be placed atthe branch spread or beyond where possible. Sub-
contractors ehou|de|oobeinformedaotothefunctionofthefenoingondvvarnedregardingitsremova\.
The only exceptions will be sites where final grading has occurred and
construction areas nearest trees have been seeded, or where there is orange silt fencing between the construction activity
and the trees, and the silt fencing ia upright and intact.
Per OPH Tree Protection Ordinance 1307, developers must adhere to the Tree Protection Standards of the city regarding
tree protection fencing, "If the fence is temporarily removed or knocked dmwn, it is to be replaced immediately. This
fencing isto remain until all phases of construction have been oomp|eted"
The tree protection fencing should be back in place by noon on Thursday 10/30. |t will be inspected that afternoon.
