• CITY OF OAK PARK HEIGHTS
WASHINGTON COUNTY, MINNESOTA
A RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE
AND ACHIEVEMENTS OF BOB UTECHT
WHEREAS, Bob Utecht was born January 12, 1920, in Oak Park Heights,
Minnesota and graduated from Stillwater Area High School in 1937; and
WHEREAS, despite having grown up during the Great Depression, Bob
displayed a constant sense of optimism in his life -long achievements and in his
community sprit; and
WHEREAS, Bob Utecht was an esteemed writer with careers at the Bloomington
Sun (25 years), the Stillwater Gazette and Stillwater Courier News whose work
encouraged communities to look to the future; and
WHEREAS, Bob was active in civic events, programs and committees, including
active campaigning for the construction of the Metropolitan Stadium and the Met Center,
and used his columns in the Stillwater Gazette and Stillwater Courier News to promote a
wide range of Stillwater area groups, events and causes; and
• WHEREAS, Bob Utecht had a tremendous impact on professional and amateur
hockey, working as a rink announcer for the Minnesota North Stars at the Metropolitan
Sports Center, coaching High School hockey and along with his wife, Donna, founded
"Let's Play Hockey," a news magazine to promote the growth of amateur hockey in the
area; and
WHEREAS, Bob received many prestigious awards in his lifetime, including
Stillwater Area High School's Distinguished Alumnus award in 1997, the Don Clark
Award from Minnesota Hockey in 2002, and memberships in the Minnesota High School
Hockey Coaches Hall of Fame, the Minnesota Hospitality Association Hall of Fame, and
the Bloomington Adult Sports Hall of Fame. `Nuff Said.
