HALL @ROWEfi, July 14, 1995 L) JUL I 1 1996 Mr. Mike Robertson Oak Park Heights, City Administrator 14168 N 57th St. Oak Park Heights, MN 55082 Dear Mr. Robertson: I am having problems involving Canadian Geese. Over the past few years they have multiplied significantly, from 1 pair with 2 goslings to a total of 27 geese. In the past three to four years they have destroyed my garden. This year they have left droppings up to our back door, in our front yard and driveway. An accumula- tion of 27 geese and their dropping: renders our back yard a gross mess. On July 12, 1995, I spoke with Tom L. in the wildlife division of the DNR. He gave me 2 suggestions to deal with problem, one short term and one long term solution. The short term solution involves putting up "Goose Scare Tape ". We have tried this for the past couple of years without success. The DNR has given me some ideas to implement this process with better satisfaction. The long term solution will take action by the city. The city will need to pass a resolution to relocate the geese. My under - standing of this process is that once a resolution has been passed, the city will contract with Dr. Cooper of the University of Minnesota to relocate the geese. This would require a multi- year relocation program since geese tend to nest at their birth site 2 years after they are born. As you are aware, many other parts of the Twin Cities area are having terrible problems with Canadian Geese. It is my hope that we can control this problem of 27 geese before they become 50 or even 100. I would like to thank you in advance for your help and I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, I / a "'all D.C. 1421 3rd St. N. Oak Park Heights, MN 55082 Members of Minnesota Chiropractic Association
