They have verbally asked the City to reimburse them $2,000 for the installation of their on -site lift station. As their letter indicates, they have experienced sewer backups since 1992, with the latest being in 2002. The City's insurance has "paid -out" on their submitted claims — I have enclosed summary of the claims. The apparent problem is that their basement bathroom is set very low so when the lift station does back-up, their basement will fill with sewerage. Dennis Postler will be at the work session and will be able to bring more information. Keep in mind that the lift station was already situated at that site prior to the Garavalia's home, therefore their home may have been set relatively low and exacerbated by a basement bathroom. With the installation of the on -site lift station the problem should be solved. ,yam• �-- • • 4 November 28, 2004 City of Oak Park Heights 14168 North Oak Park Blvd. Oak Park Heights, MN 55082 To Whom It May Concern: Over the past 15 years we have lived in our home, we have had sewer back up into our basement five times. This would occur when there was a lift station failure at 53 Street and O'Brien Avenue. In 1992, at the recommendation of the City of Oak Park Heights, we installed a backflow valve and a manually - operated ball valve in our basement. The last two backups to occur were in 2001 and 2002 after the backflow valve was in place. The lift station was down for 12 hours. It became obvious that we needed another solution. Jay, from the City of Oak Park Heights, recommended we install a residential sewer lift station in our basement. We completed the project this fall. The upstairs plumbing was separated from the basement. The basement waste water flows into the lift station and is raised up 6 feet and then discharged to the sewer. The cost to install this was $3,451.84. Dunn Plumbing gave us a bid of $3,900. It is a relief to have this project done and know that our property is protected. We can now go ahead with putting our basement back together.
