RE: Oak Park Heights - DNR Boat Launch
FILE NO: 798.02
In a phone conversation this morning with Kathleen Wallace,
Administrator of. the DNR Metro Region Office, Ms. Wallace
indicated that the 6 November 1989 StarTribune article was
premature. The DNR's agreement with NSP and the MWCC is only
preliminary at t±zis time and no final arrangements have been
made. In addition, with the boat launch not to be constructed
until the Spring of 1991 (at the earliest), considerable time
exists to finalize all of the plans or change them should
revisions be necessary.
Ms. Wallace also stated that the DNR would be designating a field •
manager to carry out the project and work with the local
communities to ensure the proposed ramp is acceptable by all
affected parties. Ms. Wallace was informed the boat ramp would
require a conditional use permit from the City, although she
questioned whether the DNR was subject to local ordinance
regulations in this instance.
As the project progresses, DNR staff that can assist the City in
its review are as follows:
Alan Robin- Fingers
DNR Frontenac Office
612-345-3331
Molly Shelldine
Area Hydrologist
296 -7323
4601 Excelsior Blvd. • Suite 410 • Minneapolis, MN 55416 • (612) 925 -9420 • Fax 925 -2721
i
Lastly, Ms. Wallace was questioned on the proposed ramp's
relationship to the future Sillwater- Holton river crossing
corridors. The proposed ramp is in a virtual direct line with
the bridge corridor that extends due east of T.H. #36. Ms.
Wallace indicated she was aware of this although she felt this
was not of a concern as the boat launch can operate underneath
the bridge. The only problem that would need to be resolved is
the disruption and possible closure of the boat ramp during the
construction of the bridge.
