HomeMy WebLinkAbout1997-05-12 Valley View Site Plan - Andy Weaver to OPH 5 -12 -91 • • To: City of Oak Park Hieghts From: Andrew Weaver (Valley View Biologist) RE: Valley View SITE PLAN PHASE I - This phase should be completed by Dec. 97. - Most of this phase will involve restoring about 5 acres of native prairie along the south edge of the site. Cost = $8190.00 - This part of Valley View Park has a large hill that overlooks the wetlands below. Oak Park Heights residents should be able to have a great hiking experience once this area is restored. - Because prairie restorations take about three years to take on a mature look with grasses and mature flowers, it was decided that this is where our efforts should be concentrated for this year. - S.T.S. Crews will work to prep the phase two area by clearing small trees. Tree Trust crews may also be available for similar work. In a nutshell 1) Prep site with a controlled burn and chemical treatment. 2) Drill grass and forbs seed into ground 3) Mow where appropriate. 4) Revisit and do spot plantings. PHASE II - This phase will be completed by Dec of 98. - Finish another 3 acres of prairie restoration. Cost = $5240.00 - Install dock over wetland. Cost = $5000.00 - 10,000.00 - Rock loop trail with crushed limestone. As funds permit. - S.T.S. and Tree Trust will be involved with this phase as well. Mostly working with hauling rock to paths. FUTURE PHASES - These projects may occur earlier depending on grants. - Observation platform over wetland - Spur trail on north hill forbs plantings
