HomeMy WebLinkAbout2001-08-20 Xcel Energy Email to OPH Re Ongoing Activities @ LandfillKris Danielson From: Knutson, Darrell G [darrell.g.knutson a@xcelenergy.com] Seat: Monday, August 20, 2001 8:57 AM Tap 'Kris Danielson' Subject: Ongoing Activities at the Landfill Kris, This note just serves as an update to activities that are an ongoing part of the landfill operation. If you or anyone else needs additional information, feel free to call me. The current activities that fall outside the scope of weekly ash placement include: Closure Construction A construction event to permanently close approximately 1 acre of the Landfill's south slope is scheduled to begin August 6. Construction involves placing a synthetic membrane over the ash, placing soils above the membrane, then vegetating the area with grasses. The closure area is that portion of the south slope just east of where the trail approaches the Landfill from the south. Construction should be completed within a month and will involve slightly increased truck traffic during the relatively short duration the cover soils are being delivered to the site. Re ermittin : The 5-year duration of the MPCA permit for the Landfill (Permit SW -54) will expire mid- March, 2002. As required by the MPCA, an application to reissue the permit must be submitted to the MPCA no later than 6 months prior to its termination, or by Sept. 18, 2001. A copy of the application will be provided to the City. We do not anticipate significant changes will be requested to the design and development plan permitted in 1997. If there is a desire on the part of any city officials to have a meeting to discuss the above items, let me know and we'll get something set up. Thanks Kris, Darrell
