Widin" <kwidin @mmmpcc.org> To: <srichards @nacplanning.com> Sent: Friday, March 30, 2001 7:51 AM Subject: Landscape Plan DDD LLC Scott - I have reviewed the landscape plan for the DDD LLC PUD proposed for Kern Center and have the following comments: 1. I would like to see more of a "design" in this plan. Plant "choices" are given in the schedule, but it is not indicated where the specific cultivars will be planted. Will the shrub beds in a particular area be all one cultivar? I would like to see specific plant placement of tree and shrub cultivars so that I can visualize the design and determine if locations are appropriate for the species. * *I recommend that a professional landscape plan be done. 2. Except for a few median plantings, the plan consists mostly of lines of plant material. This makes it an uninteresting landscape. Could the shrubs by the building foundations be staggered at all to break up these lines? 3. Plant Schedule - Plant Material: a. Sugar maple will not do well on this site. I suggest that it be replaced with a rubrum maple b. Norway maple suffers winter injury and is prone to storm breakage. I suggest it be replaced with basswood (Am. linden) c. "Radiant" and "Royalty" crabs should be replaced with more disease resistant cultivars, such as "Indian Magic ", "Prairie Fire" or "Profusion" d. Some of the Colo. spruce should be replaced with a white spruce cultivar, such as "Black Hills" due to disease problems with Colo. spruce e. River birch is considered an ornamental tree in this plan. It attains a size considerably larger than the other ornamentals listed, so it should be placed in a location with more room. 4. Planting Detail: a. hole indicated for shrub planting should be shallow, similar to tree diagram. Shrub root ball should be placed at the bottom of hole on firm soil.
