2005-10-26 Arborist Report
Julie Hultman From: Sent: To: Subject: OPH Staff - Kathy Widin Arborist City of Oak Park Heights 651 - 439 -4439 kdwidin ©comcast.net 1 kdwid in a@comcast. net Wednesday, October 26, 2005 9 :32 AM Tom Ozzello; Julie Hultman; Dennis Pastier; Eric A. Johnson; Jim Butler; Scott Richards; Mark Vierling CSM/Lowe's Landscaping I have reviewed the landscape plans and tree removal/replacement calculations for the CSM/Lowe's project and have the following comments: 1. The landscape plans generally look good and species (where scientific name and cultivars are indicated) appear to be hardy and have relatively low maintenance requirements. 2. The CSM plan (L -1 dated 10- 12 -05) has more detail on it, including a 'Landscape Schedule' which contains the common and scientific names, cultivar (cultivated variety) names and numbers of each type of plant material. The Lowe's plan requires a landscape or 'Plant Schedule' which also contains this information. Plan L -1 for Lowe's (dated 8- 10 -05) contains a 'Plant Legend' but this just has general plant information in it. Drawing #10 for Lowe's has a 'Plant List' but this appears to be different than the Plant Legend on Plan L-1 and also does not contain numbers of each type of plant. This information should be included and should be consistent from one plan to another. Remove Drawing #10 from the packet if it is no longer accurate. 3. On Plan L -2 (Tree Preservation Plan dated 8- 10 -05) the calculations for 'Proposed Caliper Inches' do not appear to be accurate, For CSM I calculated 297 proposed caliper inches from the plan (both current and concept phases) rather than 374. For the Lowe's portion, not enough credit was assigned, since there are more than 111 overstory deciduous trees, more than 30 ornamental trees and more than 80 coniferous trees indicated on the plan. only 111 overstory deciduous trees were included in the calculation of proposed caliper inches. Ornamental trees should be included at 2.0 in. caliper and coniferous trees at 2.5 in. caliper. The developer should look over the plans and make the changes /additions listed above.
