Lowe's Landscape Plan /Tree Replacement
I have reviewed the revised landscape plan for Lowe's (undated, submitted 11/9/05) and have the following comments:
1. The plan is attractive and an improvement over the previous submittal in terms of species composition. The addition of
shrubs in the NW and NE corners and the E entrance are a nice addition.
2. The plant species proposed are good choices and are appropriate for the site. They are hardy, will grow well in this
area, and have few serious insect, disease or growth problems which would increase plant maintenance. The
replacement of some of the Colorado spruce with 'Black Hills' spruce will lessen the maintenance issues which appear as
Colorado spruce decline after 15 -20 years.
3. Some of the same species proposed for the CSM portion of the site have also been used here. The landscapes will
blend somewhat but also retain individuality which will provide visual interest and plant diversity.
4. I assume the Planting Detail and Planting Notes are the same as those which are shown on the CSM plan( ?)
5. The tree replacement calculation has been revised slightly based on this newer plan for Lowe's. Total estimated tree
removal for the whole site is 1405 in.. CSM proposes
to plant 328 caliper inches of trees, and Lowe's proposes to plant 273 caliper inches of trees. The estimated tree
replacement requirement is 804 caliper inches, which is approximately 402- 2 in caliper trees, or cash in lieu of tree
planting of $40,200. ($50. per caliper in. x 804 caliper inches).
