2008-06-06 Arborist Landscape Review
Julie Hultman From: Sent: To: Subject: OPH Staff - K.D. Widin [kdwidin ©comcast.net] Friday, June 06, 2008 5:51 PM Eric Johnson; Mark Vierling (E- mail); Dennis Pastier (E-mail); Scott Richards; Jimmy Butler; Judy Hoist; Julie Hultman; Tom Ozzello OPH Marketplace - Landscape Review I have inspected the landscaping installed at the OPH Marketplace site, using the plan dated 4/11/06 as a reference. I have the following observations and recommendations regarding this landscaping: 1. The "Emerald Mound" honeysuckle have been replaced with a lower- growing shrub, which is acceptable. 2. A number of trees and a couple shrubs on the site are dead or dying, these should be removed and replaced: a. hackberry (1) b. flowering crabapple (2) c. thornless cockspur hawthorn (2) d. honeylocust (1) Note: Most of the rest of the honeylocust look stressed, with tip dieback and epicormic sprouting. These trees should be inspected again in late August of 2008, to determine if they should be replaced or not. e. "Rosy Glow" barberry (1) 3. Dead branches on remaining trees and shrubs should be pruned. 4. Remove metal roads staked to honeylocust to straighten the trunks - the binding will girdle the trees; if trunks cannot stand upright unsupported, the trees should be replaced. 5. The twine left around the base of the trunks of the trees, should be cut and removed on all shade, ornamental and evergreen trees on the site. This was to have been removed at planting time, according to the "Planting Notes" -- "open top of burlap on B &B materials ", which requires the removal of the twine. 6. The ornamental grass is not coming back well. This should be replaced if it continues to do poorly. 7. The landscaping around a sign to be placed SE of the drive - through was never put in. This is acceptable since the entrance was changed. Please contact me if you have any questions regarding this inspection or report. Please forward my comments to the developer.
