The facility is required to give local police, fire departments, hospitals, and state or local emergency response teams a layout of the facility, so they may become familiar with entrances to roads inside the facility, and possible evacuation routes. A copy of the facility layout is enclosed for your review and should be kept on file at your organization. Wal -Mart is also required to familiarize local hospitals with the properties of hazardous waste handled at the facility and the types of injuries or illnesses that could results from fires, explosions, or releases at the facility. Wal -Mart manages hazardous waste generated from a retail environment. If an employee is exposed to a hazardous waste or material, a Material Safety Data Sheet can be supplied at your request. We have enclosed a copy of our contingency plan. The plan is designed to minimize hazards to human health or the environment from fires, explosions or any unplanned sudden or non sudden release of hazardous waste to the air, soil or surface water. The contingency plan identifies the Emergency Coordinator, defines the responsibilities of the Emergency Coordinator, provides relevant emergency numbers, provides a list of emergency equipment available at the facility (evacuation map), and provides an evacuation plan for facility personnel. At all times there must be at least one Management Associate either on the premises or on call (i.e. available to respond to an emergency by reaching the facility within a short period of time) with the responsibility for coordinating all emergency response measures. The facility manager is the primary Emergency Coordinator, and the manager on duty is the alternate Emergency Coordinator. While the Emergency Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all emergency response measures, all Associates must also be thoroughly familiar with proper waste handling and emergency procedures, relevant to their responsibilities. This Contingency Plan must be posted next to the telephone at the Customer Service desk and fitting room in Wal -Mart Stores and at the membership desk in Sam's Clubs. This information must be inserted into the table by the facility. This Contingency Plan must be updated should there be a change in any of these Associate's responsibilities or if other Management Associates are designated as Emergency Coordinators. If it is possible to do so without harm to yourself or others, attempt to extinguish the fire using a fire extinguisher and call the fire department. SPILL In the event of a spill of a hazardous material or hazardous waste, contain the flow of the spill to the extent possible, and as soon as is practicable, using the appropriate personal protective equipment, clean up the spill and any contaminated materials or soil. If the spill is too large to contain and /or clean up, call the Compliance Hotline immediately. FIRE, EXPLOSION, OR OTHER RELEASE In the event of a fire, explosion, or other release which could threaten human health or when the generator has knowledge that a spill of a hazardous material or hazardous waste has reached surface water, the generator must immediately notify the National Response Center (using their 24 -hour toll free number (800) 424 8802). The report must include the following information: The name, address, and US EPA Identification Number of the generator Date, time, and type of incident (e.g. spill or fire) Quantity and type of hazardous material or hazardous waste involved in the incident Extent of injuries, if any Estimated quantity and disposition of recovered materials, if any In the event of an emergency, contact the WAL -MART COMPLIANCE HOTLINE at (800) 530 -9923.
