Subject: Washington County Special Response Team
At the city council meeting on December 10th, I received approval to assign
a member of OPHPD to the Washington County Special Response Team. The
current participating communities requested that all communities consider
appointing a member on their team. Due to dept. size, I was asked to assign
one person. I did not consider myself or either patrol sgt. due to the fact
if we had a situation in our own community I wanted all supervisor's
available to me. Setting that aside I decided to offer the assignment to
Brian DeRosier. This choice was made after considering several factors
including but limited to the follow: location of residence, certified
firearms instructor, familiarity with special weapons due to military
experience, least amount of impact on patrol division. Due to training for
this type of assignment we were asked that whomever be assigned, that it be
for a considerable amount of time to get the most for the training time &
expense. The entire dept. will benefit by assigning someone to this unit as
the assigned officer will be able to bring back training ideas for the whole
dept to utilize from his specialized training. The assignment was offered
to Brian at which time he accepted. Brian will begin training time with the
unit after the first of the new year.
