Dear Ms. Smith,
On June 28, 2011, I posted a letter to the home owner on the door at the above referenced address, addressing
home maintenance, yard maintenance, and outside debris scattered throughout the yard. The letter stated "Do
Not Remove" however, while on inspection in the neighbor -hood I noticed that it had been removed from the
front door and decided to stop and do a site investigation to see what, if any, progress may have taken place
towards improving the property. I found that all of the debris beneath the deck had been removed and that the
yard had been graded. The site looked pretty nice. The City thanks you for taking those steps in cleaning up the
property site.
Additionally, I noticed the water meter remote was hanging on the side of the house and there were two three -
inch holes in the side of the building open to the basement and the garage.
Further investigation of the site revealed the following:
1) Siding material beneath the basement windows was missing or damaged.
2) Sheet rock was removed from the basement stair walls and no longer is there a guard for those stairs,
which is in violation of the Building Code.
3) The handrail installed for the same stairway does not comply with the requirements of the Building Code.
Until these two items (2 &3) have been corrected the stair shall not be used.
4) In the basement there is a gas line that appears to not have a shut off valve or plug in the end of the line.
A valve is needed and a plug to be installed to prevent any leakage.
5) A fireplace was sitting in the middle of the basement. The installation of this item will require a permit
from the City.
6) There was some round duct work on the basement floor which tells me that there has possibly been
alteration to the heating system, which also requires a permit from the City.
7) Sheet rock was removed from a couple of kitchen walls indicating possible alteration to both electrical
and plumbing, which again requires the issuance of a permit. Plumbing permits are issued by the City.
Electrical permits are obtained from the State of MN.
This letter is to inform that a STOP WORK NOTICE HAS BEEN POSTED at the site and you are required to make
application for and obtain a Building Permit for these alterations within ten days of the date of this letter. If this is
not done the City shall have no alternative than to take further legal action.
