Re: Deck Permit #2001 -00136
Dear Mr. Slavik:
On April 30, 2007 you requested a final re- inspection of the violations noted in
my September 8, 2006 Correction Notice. The violations were found not to be
satisfactorily corrected, as per the Minnesota State Building Code, during the final re-
inspection. On May 25, 2007, I addressed a second letter to you, again addressing the
building code violations and requested compliance within 30 days. To date no effort to
comply appears to have been made and the stair structure remains in violation of the
City's Building Code Requirements.
The following items are still in violation and require correction to achieve
compliance with the requirements of the Minnesota State Building Code:
1) A gripable handrail is required. The 5/4" X 6" board lying flat on top of your
guardrail does not comply.
2) The stair risers must all be the same height. Your risers vary from 5 -Y2" to 7" and
do not comply with this code requirement.
3) The stair treads must also all be the same depth. The treads you have installed
vary a 1" in depth and do not comply.
With this letter you are requested to correct these violations within 30 days from
the date of this letter. Failure to comply is a violation of the Code is considered a
misdemeanor offence and will leave the City with no alternative but to begin enforcement
proceedings. For your convenience, I have enclosed another copy of the stairs and
handrail requirements for your review and use.
A copy of this has been placed in your property file at City Hall for record
purposes. It will be removed at such time the corrections have been made and they have
been found to be in compliance. Contact Julie at 651 -351 -1661 to schedule an
