RE: Outdoor Signage at Phil's Tara Hideaway
Dear Matt,
I am in receipt of your building permit application. However, the documents enclosed do not correspond to
my discussions with your firm several weeks ago. Based on what I can determine from the submitted
documents, it appears that you are seeking to dismantle the current signage and relocate it to a site about 5'
eastwardly. This is contrary to my understanding of what was to occur.
Specifically, the issue at hand was that the neighboring property owner desires the support structures to be
removed from his lands to the west and which cross the property line. The City would have no objection to
the removal of these supports but only after we are provided a structural engineering report that would
indicate that such removal would not result in a structural defect in the support of the current signage or
require alternative support construction.
As I indicate above, this does not appear to be what is being proposed; instead you are looking to
deconstruct the entire sign and rebuild it in a new location. Based on this premise, you may not do so as the
City has adopted a moratorium on any construction of signage over300 square feet. Additionally your off -
site signage is a current non - conforming structure and cannot be reconstructed in a new site — as it would
essentially be a new sign.
Returning to our initial discussion, if you wish to remove the rear supports, please provide to my attention
an engineering report stating that such sign may appropriately withstand he loss of such supports w /out
additional construction. Please note however that the City is not at this time requiring you to do anything.
Removal of the rear supports is a choice that you may wish to make, but will result in the imposition of
City requirements.
I am rejecting your application and returning your documents as they do not meet the necessary
requirements as discussed above. Please let me know if you have any questions, otherwise please give me a
call : I • we • . I discuss this matter further.
