WEEKLY.NOTES — January 4, 2013
Zoning / Development Items
1. The City has not received any new applications.
2. The City has received four applications for the Planning Commission vacancies (2). The
Planning Commission will be holding interviews next week.
3. The City received its annual Housing Performance Score from the MET COUNCIL for
guidelines under the Livable Communities Act. This score of "82 ", is better than most
communities in Washington County, but will only be of value if the City were to seek
certain types of grant funding for certain housing developments.
7 4. I believe I had mentioned that McDonald's has approached the City about a full replacement
of their large monument sign. The recent City Council action only permitted a restoration of
the current monument sign. McDonalds has been advised that if they do wish to install a
new monument sign in a similar size magnitude they would need a VARIANCE and would
require a full public hearing under the City's Zoning Code.
St. Croix River Crossing:
The MNDNR has issued the permit to MNDOT for construction of the SCRC. I have enclosed a
copy of the permit document as received by Molly Shodeen today (1- 4 -13).
The City has received a request from the St. Croix River Crossing Coalition to contribute $3,000 to
their continued efforts. See Enclosed. I would anticipate placing this item on the Jan 22n Council
Agenda as Mr. Chad Kulas (consultant for the Coalition) would be present to answer questions.
